Hello fellow career enthusiasts! My name is Ashlee, and I am just another working mom with a desire to succeed in all things life – career, parenthood, and happiness!
I wear many hats… mother, wife, HR professional, career coach, student… the list goes on and on. I am on a journey to figure out how to balance all of these and along the way I hope to help others who are trying to do the same!
My passion for reading, writing, and helping others is what prompted me to start this journey… I intend to do just that. So, my promise to you is to provide an open dialogue to encourage conversations on these topics… Let’s figure out how to balance life together!
Transitional Career… What Does It All Mean?
I chose the name “Transitional Career” because it speaks very loudly on who I am, what I am passionate about, and the reality of life. In this blog, you will find information on career transition, life transition, and transitions within many other contexts… After all, change is inevitable, but many just can’t handle it. I hope to ease the fear of change in my readers, and to inspire to tackle it with great confidence.
The Meaning Behind The Logo.
I created my own logo to give myself a brand (I also have a creative side and thought it would be fun to do this). As you can see, the logo is very simple… it looks just like a black and white circle, right? Well, there is more behind the circle… It is an abstract waning quarter moon. Just as the moon has transitions, so does life. But also like the moon, there is a constant pattern. It is important for us, as human beings, to find that balance and pattern, even through constant changes. Yes, I know… that was deep! 🙂
Now, Let’s Get Personal.
I am a practicing HR professional, and I truly love my job! I get to help employees with their issues, but seldom do I get to help them with their actual career goals. It wouldn’t be professional to encourage them to leave the company, now would it?
Don’t get me wrong, I encourage continuing education to all of my employees (you can see my thoughts and opinions on education here)… but I encourage education related to their current job… I don’t want to contribute to the already high turnover rates that I am trying to fix.
I mentioned my student “hat” above. I am currently a full-time student in grad school, but all of that will be ending soon. Which is another reason I decided to start this blog. Grad school is a lot of writing, and I knew without an outlet for my writing, I would go crazy!
I am a firm believer in education and the importance of continuing such. Whether you are receiving formal education at a University, attempting a certification, or continuous learning through books, blogs, or life… it is all essential and, I believe, crucial to overall success.
I am also a mommy to a beautiful daughter. Sometimes I wish I didn’t have to worry about my career so I could spend every waking moment with her. But, we all know that isn’t realistic. (See more thoughts and opinions on work-life balance here). I know that my drive for career success will pay off, and is a part of parenting… I am always trying to lead by example for her.
Since I am a career enthusiast, but also a wife, mommy, student… yada yada yada… I am always striving to find that perfect work-life balance. I want to share my thoughts and experiences on this, because I know that I have found other’s thoughts and experiences helpful. Just trying to pay it forward…
I mentioned my love for helping others. My previous career before I made the transition to HR, was in case management. I loved the helping aspect of the job, but could not seem to balance it with my home life. I worked in child welfare, and felt that I was neglecting my own child for the sake of other’s children. I won’t get into that here… but you will definitely read more on that in later posts.
The purpose of the Ask HR section is to fulfill my love for helping others, as it relates to their career success. Whether there is a question on transition, career, workplace conflict, resumes, cover letters… and any other obscure request… I want to combine my experiences and knowledge to help YOU!
Ready, Set, Go.
Now that I have spilled my heart out to everyone, let’s get this thing started. Have fun exploring my blog… I hope that I can help and inspire you to reach your successes, whatever they may be!!!
